Uses:
Wellbutrin SR is used to relieve
symptoms of depression such as feelings of sadness, worthlessness or guilt, loss of
interest in daily activities, changes in appetite, tiredness, sleeping too much and
insomnia. Wellbutrin SR may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.
Do not stop taking Wellbutrin SR
without first talking to your doctor. It may be several weeks before you begin to feel
better, and you may require continuous treatment for quite some time.
How To Take This Medication:
Wellbutrin SR comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken one
to three times a day and may be taken with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or divide
Wellbutrin SR tablets. Follow the directions on your prescription label
carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.
Take Wellbutrin SR exactly as directed.
Continue to take Wellbutrin SR even if you feel
well. Do not stop taking Wellbutrin without talking to your doctor, especially if you have
taken large doses for a long time. Your doctor probably will want to decrease your dose
gradually. This drug must be taken regularly for a few weeks before its full effect is
felt.
Wellbutrin SR can be habit
forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer period than your
doctor tells you.
Side Effects:
Possible common side effects :
- drowsiness
- weakness or tiredness
- excitement or anxiety
- dry mouth
- insomnia
- nightmares
- change in appetite or weight
Tell your doctor if any of these
symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- frequent urination
- difficulty urinating
- constipation
- blurred vision
- change in sex drive or ability
- excessive sweating
- headaches
Drug Interactions:
Avoid alcohol or drink it only in moderation while taking
Wellbutrin SR. Alcohol may increase the
risk of having a seizure while taking Wellbutrin SR. However, if you drink a lot of
alcohol and suddenly stop, you may also increase the risk of having a seizure. Therefore,
talk to your doctor about alcohol use before starting treatment with Wellbutrin SR.
Notes:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room
immediately.
If you experience any of the
following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: seizures or tremors , loss of
coordination, fever, severe skin rash, itching, hives, chest pain, shortness of breath,
muscle or joint pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, irregular heartbeat.
Missed Dosage:
If you do miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is
almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing
schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- Store away from heat and direct light.
- Do not store the capsule or tablet form of this
medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Heat or moisture
may cause the medicine to break down.
- Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer
needed. Be sure that any discarded medicine is out of the reach of children.
